Biography
Slipknot is an American Nu Metal band that formed in 1995 in Iowa. It was an unlikely place to start a Nu Metal band. Initially the band was met with disbelief and ridicule in their hometown, with Des Moines not really big on the music scene. But because of their entirely unique brand of Nu Metal, especially one given by a nine-member lineup, buzz was starting to grow that reached some major labels. Eventually the band was signed by Roadrunner Records in 1997.
Slipknot was able to release their self-titled debut album in 1999. Thanks to their constant touring to promote the album, word of mouth created more buzz about the upcoming Nu Metal group. Their live shows were especially a hit among their fans due to their highly energetic live sets and their unique imagery of wearing masks while playing on stage.
The image that they projected as well as their music helped the band gain quite a strong following in the ensuing years that led them to release two other studio albums that enjoyed considerable success with their third album even peaking at number two on the Billboard 200 charts. The band was also nominated six times at the Grammy’s for Best Metal Performance and won one for their song, "Before I Forget".
