Offspring is an American rock band that hailed from Orange County in California. It was formed in 1984 by guitarist and vocalist Bryan Holland and bassist Greg K. The duo also added James Lilja on drums and Kevin "Noodles" Wasserman as lead guitarist who was then working as a school janitor at that time. The band took the name The Offspring in 1985.

After releasing a single as well as a change in lineup where Lilja was replaced by Ron Welty on drums, the band was able to sign with a small time label, Nemesis Records in 1988. They were able to come up with a self titled debut album in 1989 that was released in a limited number of copies.

The band went on to switch labels and signed on Epitaph Records, where the band eventually worked on their Smash album which was released in 1993. Smash went on to become the band’s best selling CD and it set out to become the best selling album ever released by an independent label as it went on to sell over 14 million records.

With the success of their Smash album, the band bought out the rights to their first album with Holland and Greg K deciding to put up their own record label, Nitro Records. After two years of touring, the band eventually left Epitaph and signed with Columbia Records from which they were able to release their next album Ixnay on the Hombre. Although not as successful as their Smash album, it went on to sell over four million copies.

1998 saw the band releasing their Americana album. This contained songs that were lighter musically than their previous albums and gave the band their two biggest hit singles, "Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)" and "Why Don’t You Get a Job". In 2000, the band released their Conspiracy of One album. 2003 saw the band releasing their seventh album entitled Splinter. Both albums only receive moderate successes.

In 2005, the band released their greatest hits album which contained 14 of the band’s hits from their Smash to their Splinter albums. The Offspring is currently in the process of recording their eighth album as they continue to go on tour to perform in some parts of the world.
