Pink FloydPink Floyd is an English rock band from the 1960’s that was known for their evolving style of rock music that have influenced a number of rock artists and help bring about quite a number of innovations not only through their music but also through their art. Pink Floyd was also known as one of the most successful and influential acts ever to grace the world of rock music.

During the course of their rock career, they were able to sell over 250 million albums worldwide aside from an incredible number of sold out concerts for their fans all over the world.

The original lineup for Pink Floyd was composed of Roger Waters and Bob Klose on guitars Richard Wright on keyboards, and Nick Mason on drums and Syd Barrett on vocals with Klose leaving just after finishing the demo of the band. Eventually they did well on the ground scene for a time.

By 1966, they have gathered a considerable following among the psychedelic rock fans and were able to put up their own business partnership that produced and released several singles that they made. One of them, "See Emily Play" gave the band to Top Ten single that granted them a TV appearance on Top of the Pops that further increased their popularity.

In August of 1967, Pink Floyd was able to come out with their debut album that was critically acclaimed as one of the prime examples of British psychedelic rock music. It showcased Barrett’s poetic lyrics and an eclectic mixture of music that was well received by fans.

But along with their popularity came the stress that affected the band, mostly having serious implications as some members were getting into psychedelic drugs. Most affected was Syd Barrett who became more and more difficult to get along with as signs of mental decline and deterioration became more and more apparent. He was eventually replaced by then guitarist David Gilmore who took on the front man chores for the band.

On the course of their next albums, they did a lot of musical experimentation that made them create a progressive type of sound that eventually became their trademark. But it was in the 70’s that they became a distinctive band that was beginning to be quite difficult to classify in any rock genre. On their subsequent albums, they were able to come up with more progressive sounding songs that made them quite popular.

Most notable of their accomplishments was their massively successful album in 1973, "The Dark side of the Moon". It became the bands first number one album on the US charts and is considered as one of the biggest selling albums in rock music history, selling over 40 million copies worldwide.

Pink Floyd became popular all over the world because of their distinctively progressive sound making use of as well as the elaborate concerts that they set up which were quite visually spectacular during their time. This distinction gave them the admiration among many rock fans who have considered them as one of the greatest rock bands in history.
