Depeche Mode is an English New Wave band that formed in Essex, England in 1980. The band enjoyed early success with their work with electronica. They spawned three hit singles that enjoyed some chart success in the UK. This led to the band to record and release their debut album, Speak and Spell in 1981.

The band enjoyed a growing international fame in the mid to late 80’s as they enjoyed success in the UK, Europe as well as Australia. 1984 saw them conquering US shores with their "People are People" single, which reached the thirteenth spot on the US charts. Their later releases saw the band evolving from coming up with industrial pop songs to a more mature, insightful and more textured sound.
