Hoobastank is an American post-grunge band that hails from Agoura Hills in California. The band formed in 1994 between two competitors from high school battle of the bands, vocalist Doug Robb and guitarist Dan Estrin. The bad started out by playing local gigs in their area. The band started out playing at Cobalt Cafe along with other bands that also went on to make a name for themselves such as Linkin Park, Incubus and others.

The band began to make a strong reputation for themselves in their area that attracted also the attention of the major label Island Records where the band eventually signed a recording contract in 2000.  The band then went on to release their self-titled debut album in 2001 and spawned two hit singles, "Crawling in the Dark" and "Running Away". The album went on to reach Platinum status by virtue of these hit singles.

The band’s second album, The Reason was released in December of 2003. It produced a massive hit single for the title track of the album that reached the number two spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The single also did well in many parts of the world. The band also became known internationally by accompanying Linkin Park on its Meteora world tour as support in 2004.

Members of Hoobastank went to the same high school in Agoura as Mike Shinoda and Brad Delson of Linkin Park.
