Candlebox is an American rock and roll band that became popular during the heydays of the grunge period in the 90’s. The band was formed by singer and guitarist Kevin Martin and drummer Scott Mercado.

The band was heavily criticized as a toned down grunge rock band and was never formally accepted as such by hardcore grunge fans. But it was their toned down version of grunge that paved the way for the band to enjoy commercial success, making it easier for the mainstream to embrace the new and upcoming genre.

The band initially signed up with Maverick Records where they were able to record and release their self-titled debut album. It proved to be a commercial success as the album was able to sell over four million copies and peaked at the seventh spot on the Billboard album charts.

Three other albums consequently followed and were also considered as major successes by the band. The band’s more popular songs include "You", "Far Behind", and "Simple Lessons".
