Breaking Benjamin is an American alternative metal band. It was formed in Pennsylvania by vocalist Benjamin Burnley and drummer Jeremy Hummel in 1998. The band first got its big break by meeting up and record their debut album with on-air personality Freddie "DJ Freddie" Fabbri. DJ Freddie funded the pressing and release 2,000 copies of the band’s self-titled debut EP. It was later sold out due to a heavy rotation on DJ Freddie’s radio station 93.7 X. The former DJ became the band’s tour manager.

After the success of their self-titled EP, the band signed on with Hollywood Records. The band came out with their first full-length major label debut album, Saturate, in 2002. Their major mainstream breakthrough came with the release of their second album, We Are Not Alone in 2004. The lead off single of the album, "So Cold" was able to reach number two on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart. It led the album to enter at number 20 on the Billboard 200 and achieve platinum status.

The band never travels outside the United States and Canada due to vocalist Benjamin Burnley’s fear of flying. The vocalist said that he would love to play outside of the States and will go as far as a boat will take him.
