Anberlin is an American alternative rock band that hails from Winter Haven, Florida. The band was created in 2002 after Tooth & Nail Records, hearing a five-song demo consisting mostly of reworked songs from Stephen Christian’s previous band SaGoh (Servants after God’s own heart) was interested and wanted to sign them in for a record.

In 2003, the band then released their first album, Blueprints for the Black Market. The album was moderately successful by selling about 60,000 copies, due to its single "Readyfuels". The band then followed it up with intense touring with other bands as well as using the Internet to better promote themselves to a wider audience. This led to the band amassing a dedicated fan base early on their careers.

The band was able to gain more mainstream success on their third album, Cities, which sold 34,000 copies on its first week of release and debuted number 19 on the Billboard 200 Charts.

The name of the band, Anberlin, was said to have been the name that front man Stephen Christian would want to name his daughter someday. When the band was thinking up of a good band name, Christian suggested it until they come up with a better one. But the name then just kind of stuck and the band became known as Anberlin ever since.
